No Fear Here

No Fear Here: God Has Given You Power

by Carolyn Bridges

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

The word power in that verse is from the Greek word, “dunamis.” It means ‘inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person exerts and puts forth.’

That power is in every Christian. When you received Jesus as your Lord, you were recreated. You are now a species that never existed before. You are born of God, and He made you a powerful being. The way to get that power to work is to believe it. The way to believe it is to do what Joshua 1:8 says,
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Jesus said in John 15:7, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you.” Strong’s concordance defines Abide: to remain, to sojourn, tarry, not to depart, continue to be present. I’ve heard it described this way: to live in, take up residence in, settle down in. That is saying that when you settle down in the words of Jesus, when you take up residence in the words of Jesus, when you live in the words of Jesus, then His words will live in, settle down in, and take up residence in you. When that happens, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you.

Knowing this gives you boldness, courage when you need it.

You may say, there are a lot of words in the Bible. Where do I begin. Begin in LOVE. Jesus is love personified. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. His Son is love, because God is love.

Now what is love? Love is the place, the secret place of God. How do you know you are in that secret place? You are there when love is at work in you. The way to get God’s love working in you is, again, to meditate in the word of God, in particular in love. In our next blog, we will find out what love is so you can begin building your house of love.
