Before we begin, understand this: God is not a genie in a bottle waiting for us to give him our three wishes. He is our Heavenly Father desiring that we love Him as much as He loves us. We do not have a “working relationship” nor a “partnership” relationship. We are one with Him in an everlasting love relationship. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look into His love for us. We will now see the first way to grasp the BLESSING of our loving Lord. Just follow these three simple rules:
One of the most important things we must do is to abide in Jesus. What does it mean to “abide” in Jesus? The word “abide” according to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance comes from the Greek word MENO, which means: to stay in a given place, state, relation or expectancy; continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for).
When Jesus said to abide in Him, He meant for us to stay in Him, stay in His word, continue in Him, dwell or live in Him, be present in Him. Spend the first part of your day in prayer. Then study His word. After that, meditate His word. Starting off in the beginning of our day gives us something to meditate on throughout the day. The only way we can live in Him is to know what His word says about our life. We need to know what His word says about the trials we go through.
This second principle involves us reading and meditating on the word of God. We are to spend so much time in it that the word is in us like toothpaste is in a tube. When you squeeze a tube of toothpaste nothing comes out but toothpaste. So it can be with us and the word of God. When the trials of life pressure us and squeeze us, as it were, the only thing that will come out of our mouth is the word of God, because we are filled with the holy written word that is able to deliver us out of all our fears.
Rule #3 - Ask what you will...For example, a man decides that from now on he is going to live as a child of the kingdom of God. Then a need arises and he needs a car. He has no money to buy one, so what does he do? The way of the world is to borrow some money, or get a lease But after meditating in the word of God, he knows that is not the way of the kingdom. That just puts him in more debt. He looks in the Bible to find out what to do as a child of the kingdom. If he looks in Mark 4:26-29 he will find out what to do in the kingdom of God.
Now that he knows what to do, he can ask God for what he wants, a car. He sees what God’s word says about it, so he sows a seed -- perhaps a financial seed -- in his church. Then he does what the word says, because it is abiding in him, and goes to bed and rises up in faith each day knowing that God is faithful to perform His word. Then, suddenly, he receives his blessing.
Sounds too simple? Well that is how the kingdom of God works. Only a couple of months ago, I needed a car. I only had so much money to buy one and it would surely be a clunker. I knew that I needed to take charge of this situation in prayer. So, I trusted God and sowed a seed and asked Him for the deal of a lifetime. Later I went to the dealership saying, I am going to get the deal of a lifetime. That is exactly what I got. A beautiful luxury automobile for a little bit of money. God met my need, just as He always has and I have no car note. The car belongs to me and I’ve been rejoicing ever since.
In the kingdom of God, we must take charge of our situation. We must be prepared by abiding in Jesus, letting His word abide in us, so that we know what to ask God for when the time comes. We must follow these three simple rules of the kingdom: Abide in Jesus; Let His words abide in us: Ask Him for what we want, and He will give it to
