The Holy Spirit: Your Helper

John 14:26 (King James Version)

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

When you receive the Holy Spirit in your life He is there to help you. He is your Helper. He helps you in many ways. Two prominent ways you receive assistance from the Holy Spirit is in your personal prayer life, and in studying the Word of God. Today we will talk about the latter.

Jesus tells you in John 14:26 how the Holy Spirit (or the Holy Ghost) helps you when you study the Word of God.

… he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (KJV)

When He says …whatsoever I have said unto you… He is talking about the Word of God. When you receive the Holy Spirit (with the Bible evidence of speaking in other tongues) you receive the ability to understand the words you read in the Bible. Once you are filled with the Holy Ghost, you will notice a difference. You may read one Scripture and then stop. You’ll go back and read it over and over again, until …boom!… you understand clearly what it means. That is the Holy Ghost helping you to study and understand the Word of God and teaching you its meaning.

Proverbs 4:7 says to get wisdom (wisdom comes from the Scriptures). But don’t just get wisdom, get understanding of all you get. The Holy Ghost, your Teacher, will bring clear to you the Scriptures as you spend time praying in other tongues and studying the Word of God.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Prayer and study in the Scriptures are the two most vital areas in which believers need help. We discussed yesterday how the Holy Ghost helps you understand the Word of God. He is your Teacher—your Great Teacher. Another way in which He helps you is in prayer.

As the text implies, there are times that we do not know what to pray. There are situations that arise in life that are so complex, that it becomes difficult to even know what to pray. Well, the Holy Spirit is there to take over that situation in prayer, when necessary. Since we don’t know what to pray, He does. Therefore, as we submit the situation to Him and begin to pray in other tongues about that situation, He is there to take care of it.

For example, one day I went out with the outreach team of my church to tell others about the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was excited. As I went out with a partner and spoke to the people, their response was, “That’s nice. See you later.” I felt so defeated that day. The next time, before I went out I decided to pray in the Spirit (in other tongues) before going out. I prayed for that day and for all that I would meet all week long making intercession for the lost. This time everyone that my partner and I spoke to accepted Jesus as their Lord! It was a glorious time. Praise the Lord!
You see, there was nothing I could have done to make someone receive salvation. I could not have made sure that the people who were ready to accept the Lord were the ones that crossed my path. I, in my own strength, was helpless. But, I called on the help of the Holy Ghost. He knew exactly what to do. I just prayed in the Spirit and let Him do the work.

Prayer and studying the Word of God are the two most vital ingredients to having a successful life. And, behold, God has give us the help to do those things with great success. Thank God for the Holy Spirit—our Helper.
