Will God Forgive You of Your Sin?

Ephesians 1:7 (King James Version)

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines forgiveness as follows: freedom, pardon, deliverance, liberty and remission. Let’s just look at “freedom and pardon” today.

It says that we are free from sin. Ephesians 1:7 is where the phrase, “free from sin,” came from. You and I were once bound by sin. Before you received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior you sinned for a living. I mean, a sinner is called a sinner because that is what he or she does. It is not that you were a bad person. There are a lot of good people who don’t know that accepting Jesus is the way to eternal life.

God saw that a sinner could not help himself. I could not help myself. You could not help yourself. So, thank God, through the birth, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus our Lord, God pardoned our sin. You see, Jesus’ was the only One qualified to help you. I couldn’t die for you, because I was born in sin just like you were. But Jesus was not born in sin. He was the only One born without sin. Therefore, He is qualified to wash away your sin. Now, He doesn’t even see the sin when He looks at you. When God looks at you, He sees holiness, godliness, and righteousness.

You may say, “Yes, but I sinned today, and God knows it.” Yes, He knows all. He even knew that you would miss the mark. Therefore, He provided the solution for you in 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If you just tell Him, or admit to God that you sinned with the heartfelt purpose of turning away from whatever it is you’ve done, then He is faithful to forgive you. Then, He cleanses you from unrighteousness. And if you are cleansed from unrighteousness, how does that leave you? Righteous!

Yes, you are righteous before God once again. It is not how many times you’ve messed up, it is that you go to God and let Him help you. Know that He will always be there when you call. God loves you.
